Curtis's biographical note: Barret, William and ‘Mayv Carragh’, see p. 163. The Barrets were Anglo-Norman or rather Anglo-Welsh settlers in Connacht and held the cantred of Bac and Glen in Tirawley under the De Burgos. The spelling ‘Mayv” represents ‘Maigeog’ (FM 1384), an Irish form of the Welsh Madoc.
